How to Calculate Your Life Path Number
To calculate your Life Path number, reduce your birth month, day and year separately, add those results, then reduce the total. This site preserves master numbers 11, 22 and 33 at the stages explained below.

Calculate your Life Path number in four steps
- Reduce the month to one digit. January through September remain 1 through 9. October becomes 1, November becomes 2 and December becomes 3. The month does not retain 11 in this method.
- Reduce the day, preserving master numbers. Add its digits until you reach one digit or a retained 11 or 22. For example, 20 becomes 2, 29 becomes 11, and 22 stays 22.
- Add the four year digits and reduce their sum. Stop at one digit or a master number, 11, 22 or 33. For example, 1990 becomes 19, then 10, then 1.
- Add the three component results. Reduce this total until you reach one digit or 11, 22 or 33. That final value is the Life Path result used by this site.
Worked example: July 20, 1990
July contributes 7. The day becomes 2 + 0 = 2. The year becomes 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10, then 1 + 0 = 1. Add the three reduced components: 7 + 2 + 1 = 10. Finally, 1 + 0 = 1, so this date produces Life Path 1.
This example shows why reducing the year can take more than one addition. A two-digit total is not always the stopping point. Continue until it reaches a single digit or one of the master numbers the method retains.

Master numbers are values that this numerology convention keeps available for separate interpretations. Retaining one does not establish special abilities or a more important destiny. The rule describes how the calculation stops, not a ranking of people.
June contributes 6. Retain the day value of 22 because it is a master number. The year becomes 1 + 9 + 4 + 9 = 23, then 2 + 3 = 5. The total is 6 + 22 + 5 = 33. Retain 33 as the final Life Path result.

Read the meaning of Life Path 33If you reduced that day from 22 to 4 before adding the components, the total would become 6 + 4 + 5 = 15, then 6. That is why retaining intermediate master numbers matters. The notation 33/6 acknowledges that 3 + 3 equals 6 while preserving 33 for a separate reading. The same idea explains 11/2 and 22/4.
Why adding every digit at once can give a different answer
The calculator on this site uses the component method above. Adding all digits in one pass can reach different intermediate master numbers. For example, July 20, 1990 gives 7 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 28, then 10, then 1. It agrees with the component method for this date. That agreement does not mean the methods always retain the same master numbers.
May 26, 1951 demonstrates a difference. The component method gives 5 + 8 + 7 = 20, then 2. Adding every date digit at once gives 5 + 2 + 6 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 1 = 29, then 11. If that method retains the final 11, it returns 11 rather than this site?s 2. Check the steps before deciding that a difference between calculators is an arithmetic error.

Use all four year digits and keep the month and day in their correct fields. A date such as 7/8 can mean July 8 or August 7 depending on how it was written. Choose the named month in the calculator so that the intended date is clear.
